Owens Corning, 5-S + Safety Organizes Work Areas and Improves Safety
These employees found out how much waste there was in a disorganized and unsafe work area. For a very little investment (time, manual labor and a little paint) this work space was turned from being an oil storage area with empty drum storage to an organized paint and oil room. Every shelf is labeled with material and quantity, thus leaving a Lean working environment. The savings in product purchase and waste of time alone delivered a ROI within a couple weeks.

Our Kaizen team was able to increase the fuel efficiency in their combustion control system. The savings was over $300,000 per year. With proper controls and maintenance (which were outlined in the report out), this savings will be seen throughout the life of the equipment. Using Lean/Six Sigma tools and methodologies this team was a success with a five day Kaizen and no prior training.
